Welcome to HotTinRoof.com
Cat on a Hot Tin Roof by Tennessee Williams is set in the deep south and explores the complicated dynamics within the Pollitt family. With a detached, depressed son, loud stereotypical southern sister-in-laws, and another son only after a possible inheritance, the Pollitt family has enough chaos for every southern family in the United Sates during the 1950's. To top it all off, the glue that holds the family together, Big Daddy, is slowly dying from cancer. With such a charismatic set of characters, Tennessee William's Cat on a Hot Tin Roof is an American classic, and has been a crowd pleaser for years. About The Author
This super classy looking guy is none other than Tennessee WIlliams, in his younger days that is. He was born on March 26, 1911 in Mississippi, and attended the Universities of Missouri and Iowa where he focused on writing. He achieved his most notable success upon the publication of The Glass Menagerie, which launched his career as a playwright. His inspiration came mainly from his early life, which was troubled. His parents had a less than perfect marriage, and his father was cruel to him as a child. He suffered from paralysis when he was 5, and was an invalid for 2 years. His father also teased him mercilessly for being homosexual. He had a partner named Frank Merlo, and were together for 15 years until Merlo's death. All of this tragic back story provided Williams with the perfect content to build his dynamic stories.
And the name "Tennessee"? Williams was actually born Thomas Lanier Williams, but was dubbed "Tennessee" by his schoolmates because of his southern accent when he went to the University of Missouri. Cool, huh?
